History

The Granite Quill began publishing in 1989 when Hillsborough natives Leigh and Joyce Bosse purchased The Messenger, a local weekly newspaper published continuously since 1868. With several New Hampshire newspapers closing during the period, The Messenger was experiencing hard times and it’s owner was considering closing shop.

Hoping to preserve a valuable community asset, the Bosses purchased the paper and began expanding its coverage area from eight towns to it’s current thirty-five. In 1992, In New Hampshire, the Quill’s monthly activity guide for the Granite State was launched and has been in publication since. In 2002, The Messenger’s traditional tabloid format was changed to magazine size for easier handling.

In 2010 two new monthly publications were added; NH Homes and Home Improvement, a guide for homeowners and home seekers, and Senior Lifestyles, a guide for active New Hampshire seniors.

As we continue to expand, look for new publications to join the fold. The Granite Sportsman will focus on the varied outdoor activities offered in New Hampshire, while Deals On Wheels, our guide to cars and car care in New Hampshire.

As always, we continue to welcome comments or suggestions from readers or advertisers on how we can improve our products and services.
