With Hillsborough’s Plan NH Charette scheduled this weekend, Newport native son Jay Lucas, spoke to a well attended breakfast meeting of the Hillsborough Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday. Lucas remarked how similar Hillsborough and Newport are, as Victorian mill towns which have fallen on tough times and a striving to regain their vitality. A successful businessman in New York City, Lucas retains a love for his hometown and has launched “The Sunshine Initiative” to resurrect Newport’s economy and community spirit. No injuries in Franklin two-family fire

A fire that started in a child’s bedroom on the second floor of a Franklin home early Friday morning was quickly extinguished by fire crews, officials said. No one was injured in the fire that occurred at 42 W. Bow St. just after 4 a.m., Deputy Chief David Hall said. There was also no extensive damage; both of the families living in the two-story home were able to return to the building an hour after crews arrived.
